    Chawan As an Art Piece

This Chawan is an exemplary iron glaze Tetsu-yu and ash-glazed work by one of the representative artists of Kyoto ware, Ikai Yuichi. Highly praised by major galleries across Japan, Ikai established the Kihei-gama wood-fired kiln in 1984 after studying under the Living National Treasure Shimizu Uichi (1926-2004) and Shimizu Yasutaka. In 2007 he established his own noborigama climbing kiln up of the mountain in Kyoto.
