A stunning enamelled Gosu-Akae cup made by Kato Takuo. Born into a family of pottery masters dating back to the late Edo Period (1603-1867), Kato Takuo began studying ceramic art at a very young age under his father, Kato Kobe, who is the fifth heir of the grand pottery master of Mino ware. 

Kato was a leading figure in the restoration of Persian lusterware ceramics which had disappeared during the 16th and 17th centuries. He is also focused on the restoration of tricolour glaze Sancai ceramics, the oldest Japanese pottery technique, developed in the Nara Period.
