This strikingly beautiful Guinomi is a great example of Kato's work in the Song dynasty kiln style, showing the perfection he has achieved in reproducing the lost beauty of Jun and Ru wares. Born in 1917, he was the eldest son of a ceramic potter with his own kiln Matama, that was used for generations to produce Shimitsu porcelains. He is regarded as the most prominent ceramic artist in Japan, and his artworks have been acquired by art museums all around the country.
